options:
-i  : ignore case
-v  : invert match (show non-matching lines)
-n  : show line numbers
-c  : show count of matching lines
-r  : search recursively through directories
-e  : specify pattern as an extended regular expression
-E  : specify pattern as a basic regular expression (default)

pattern:
The text or regular expression to search for.

file(s):
The file(s) to search in. Use "-" to search in standard input.

grep "hello" file.txt  # searches for "hello" in file.txt
grep -i "HELLO" file.txt  # searches for "hello" (ignoring case) in file.txt
grep -r "error" /var/log  # searches for "error" in all files in /var/log directory recursively
ls -l | grep "Jan"  # searches for "Jan" in the output of the `ls -l` command.
