1. Navigate to your phpMyAdmin site and check what version you are using

2. Copy the config file C:/xampp/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php to somewhere else
on you computer

3. Download the latest version of phpmyadmin from 
https://www.phpmyadmin.net/downloads/

4. Stop any XAMPP processes that might be running

5. Delete all files in C:/xampp/phpmyadmin and replace them with those from
the downloaded and unzipped folder above. NOTE: taking a backup of 
C:/xampp/phpmyadmin/ before deleting any files is strongly recommended

6. Copy the config file from step 2 that you saved elsewhere back into the 
C:/xampp/phpmyadmin folder

7. Restart your XAMPP processes and navigate to your phpmyadmin site to
ensure that the latest stable build or whichever you installed is now running
